Il Wylie è un sistema di scrivere in tibetano tramite una traslitterazione.
Ci sono un paio ti tools che si possono installare per scriverein Wylie su linux (in questo caso Gnome ma penso esista anche il pannel per KDE).
Bisogna:
1. Avere un font Tibetano (Leggi il post http://thinley.koblee.com/howto/scrivere-in-tibetano-con-openoffice-su-linux/)
2. Installare i pacchetti uim, uim-m17nlib, uim-applet-gnome ( on ubuntu or debian –> sudo apt-get install uim uim-m17nlib uim-applet-gnome )
3. Clicca con il pulsante destro sullo Gnome Pannel e clicca su “Add to Pannel” ( in italiano sarà “Aggiungi al Pannello” ), seleziona Input Method Indicator e aggiungilo al pannello.
A questo punto e’ tutto pronto.
Quando si vuole scrivere in wylie si mette dove c’e’ la freccietta su “on” e dove c’e’ scritto IM su m17n-bo-wylie .

Eh si grazie all’unicode e ai vari font che girano e’ possibile oramai scrivere in tibetano su OpenOffice (o qualsiasi altro software che supporti l’unicode, (si puo usare anche nella shell ad esempio))
E’ molto semplice:
1. Scaricare il font. Personalmente uso il Tibetan Machine Unicode ( Download ) (e’ sotto licenza GNU GPL grazie alla Trace Fondation )
2. Metterlo nella directory apposita (/usr/share/fonts o /usr/share/fonts/truetype), Appena copito il nella cartella bisogna fare ripartire X.Org per fare si che lo legga.
3. Aggiungere come keybord layout il Butanese ( Personalmente ho l’iconcina in alto cosi posso switchare da una tastiera all’altra )
4. Aprire OpenOffice e scrivere.
C’e’ una spiegazione molto piu completa, molti altri font, ed altre risorse utili nel sito della The Tibetan & Himalayan Library . Ci sono anche tutte le spiegazioni per Windows / Macintosh ed altri.
Ho notato andando a curiosare nei sitiweb in tibetano che alcuni (ad esempio Learn Tibetan) utilizzano il Tibetan Web Machine ( Download Page ) altrimenti non si visualizzano i caratteri. ALtri siti hanno bisogno di altri accorgimenti ancora…
Ora ci resta che studiarlo ed impararlo. Non ci sono piu scuse…
Layout Tastiera Butanese
Today I discovered how much gmail changes the point of view of the newsletters you recieve. Not that this is very important for me, as I almost always check newsletter text only. But when you go on the other side of the problem things changes:
Gmail don’t let to see background images, don’t support margins, paddings, etc.
Yes it is true tha usually you have a link on top of the email that says “if you can’t see this email correctly click here”, but how many people those effectively click there? So what we should do, return to the old html tables? I think it should be the user that decideds what he can or can’t see.
And gmail is not alone. Also many others do that. you can check an overview of browsers and features that are not supported at http://www.email-standards.org .

It is a pity that mail designer looses hours of theirs short life and then some email clients don’t even see it.
But thats life we are always conditioned by stuff out there that we don’t even notice.
